🏀 Get Started in Coaching with Iron Tigers

24 Oct by Matt Shorrock

Are you interested in becoming a coach or helping out with one of our Iron Tigers teams?

This is your chance to learn the game from a new perspective, develop leadership skills, and inspire the next generation of players.

We’re proud to support anyone who wants to give back to the game by developing the next generation of players and it all begins with a few free online courses.

Step 1: Complete the Introduction to Coaching and Aussie Hoops Courses

These are short, beginner-friendly courses that give you a great foundation in coaching children and understanding how to teach basketball the right way.
👉 Start here

Step 2: Get Your Community Coach Accreditation

Once you’ve completed the intro courses, the Community Coach Accreditation is your first official Basketball Australia qualification and is required for all Iron Tigers coaches.
👉 Get accredited here

Step 3: Complete the Safeguarding Course

All Iron Tigers coaches must also complete the Play by the Rules “Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport” course — it’s free and essential for ensuring a safe, supportive environment for all players.
👉 Complete it here

Keep Developing

Iron Tigers is committed to coaching development and reimburses 50% of all accredited coaches’ further training.

If you’ve already achieved your Community Coach accreditation and want to take the next step:

- Club Coach Accreditation (16+) – ideal for those aspiring to coach representative teams.

- Association Coach Accreditation (21+) – for experienced coaches looking to lead programs, mentor others and participate in state-level performance programs.

You must hold a Community Coach accreditation before progressing to the next level.

If you’re interested in further accreditation or joining our coaching pathway, email info@irontigersbasketball.com.au to chat about your next step.
